James Serra along with his co-owner Jim Lenz created the first fantasy football website fantasyinsights.com that started in 1994. The original site was NFLfantasy.com that then morphed into fantasyinsight.com

In 1998 they created the first Fantasy Sports Convention. This convention was at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada. It was an important milestone in the evolution of fantasy sports and fantasy sports business.

James created a fantasy commissioner software called First Place Sports Software in 1993. It was one of the original fantasy commissioners and they ran if for years until they sold the product to Real-time Sports in 2010.

James also did weekly fantasy football columns for newspapers around the country and was on local radio shows around the country for many years.

James was also a founding member of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association in 1998.
